‘growing up down’s’ wins a creative diversity network award

Growing Up Down’s, a film co-produced by Maverick and Dartmouth Films for BBC Three, won the Groundbreaking Programme category in last night’s Creative Diversity Network Awards.

The one-off documentary  followed a touring production of Hamlet, staged by Blue Apple Theatre Company, all of whose members all have learning disabilities. It was the first broadcast documentary for the Producer / Director Will Jessop, who had unique access to the group over 18 months, as his brother Tommy is the lead actor, and their mother is the founder of the company.

Tommy and Will were both present to collect the award at a ceremony attended by a host of well-know faces including Jonathan Ross,  Gok Wan, Warwick Davis, Alesha Dixon and Adam Hills.
